Tampa Bay Revisited

Here's another (probably the last) concept in my Revisited Series.  This time it's for a Tampa Bay Lightning concept I made in the summer of 2011.

Original Concept:  When the lightning came out with their new jerseys last year, I wasn't a fan at all.  I disliked the stolen colour scheme and the new logo.  For my original concept I gave them a navy and old gold colour scheme, and used their current shoulder patch as the primary logo.  I also used a simple striping pattern and contrasting shoulder yokes.

Revisited Concept:  To update the concept I used Blue and silver as the colour scheme, because I think those colours work better for the Lightning.  I also used their current primary logo, which has grown on me since it was first introduced.  I changed a few other things including adding stripes to the shoulder, simplifying the numbers, and adding a secondary logo.

Any thoughts?

Columbus Updated

Columbus Blue Jackets, update:  NB14 suggested I add a red outline to the numbers, and also add some  more white to the blue jersey.  I did both of those, I also changed the font to something more modern.

Thanks to NB14 for the suggestions.  I think the white trim really helps the red stand out better.

Columbus Set

A few of weeks ago I said that the Blue Jackets need a new look.  Also I had completely renamed the team for my NHL Redesign.  That being said, I actually like the Blue Jackets look right now (except for their ugly third jersey).  The only reason I think they need a new look is because the team has completely sucked their entire existence, and I think it's time for a change.  But if the team is committed to their current brand, I wouldn't be too upset.  I would want them to make a few changes though, which leads me to the concept below.

Columbus Blue Jackets:  The striping for this concept is based off of the sleeve stripes of their 2000-2007 jerseys.  I moved the stars off of the cuffs, simplified the numbers to one colour, and used their current logos.  I also used different pants for the home and road jerseys, something that has only been done three times in the NHL if I remember correctly (1970-79 LA Kings, 1976-82 Colorado Rockies, and 1974-75 Washington Capitals).

Thanks for reading, and as always you can leave any thoughts you have in the comments.

My Logo History

On Monday I posted about SG-94's future, today I thought I'd post about it's past.  And I'm sure none of you care about this, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

Logo 1, October 2011 - January 2012:  This wasn't really a logo, it was just a tag I put at the bottom of my concepts.  The font of the name was just Arial.

Logo 2, January - March 2012:  Same as logo one, except I changed the font and made the "94" the same height of the name.

Logo 3, March - April 2012:  Probably the most drastic change, as I added green, changed the shape to a hockey rink, and shortened it from my name to just "SG-94".

Logo 4, April - June 2012:  This was the logo I used when I first started this blog.  The shape changed from a rink to a puck, and the font extended outside of the circle.

Logo 5, June - July 2012:  I don't know if any noticed this when it happened, but I made a few subtle changes to the previous puck logo.  The font became wider, the bevel changed, and the black became lighter.

Logo 6, July 2012 - Present:  This is the current logo I use, and you probably already know enough about it from when I had a logo poll up.

Sorry for such a boring post, I'll post some concepts soon.

SG-94's Future

As you have probably already heard, I have been accepted to be a Writer for HJC.  I will be posting there every Wednesday.  I may have a bit less free time, but I still want to keep this blog going.  A few of things will be changing though;

  1. I will no longer be accepting others concepts.  My original reason to start this blog was to display my concepts, and I no longer see the point of accepting concepts.
  2. There may be posts less often, or there may be longer stretches of time with no posts.
  3. I am getting rid of the "My Jersey Collection" page.  I don't think it's necessary, and it just adds clutter to the blog.
  4. I am changing the Header at the top of the page (this one's random, I just thought three things were too short of a list).

I will keep everyone updated if anything else changes.

Stars Rebrand

Sorry for the lack of posts this last week.  I've been busy lately and haven't been able to find the time to make any concepts.  Hopefully there will be more posts up soon.

Dallas Stars:  This is my entry into HJC's Dallas Stars Rebrand Competition.  I tried to make it look western, but still connecting to the history of the franchise by using a brown, green, and vintage white colour scheme.  The rest of the concept is pretty basic.

Feel free to leave any thoughts you may have in the comments.

Red Blue-Shirts, Wait What?

New York Rangers:  I know it would never happen, but I wanted to see what a red Rangers jersey would look like.  The striping is influenced by their home jersey, and I used the Shield logo as the main logo.  I had to use navy instead of royal blue, and I also used navy equipment.

Thanks for visiting.

Updates and more Updates

Here's the updates for the Florida Panthers and San Jose Sharks concepts I posted earlier this week.

San Jose Sharks update:  When I posted the original concept both Justin and Scott suggested I used grey instead of orange.  I think it turned out pretty good.

Florida Panthers update:  Justin also suggested I make a home and road set based off of my first Florida Panthers contest entry.  I did that, but I had to delete one of the arm-stripes to get it to look right.

Thanks you to Justin and Scott for the feedback.

Canada and Columbus

Two concepts today.  One from me and one from Justin, who runs a great blog called The Art of Hockey.

Team Canada:  Back in April I posted a Team Canada concept.  Now I thought I would create a possible black third jersey.  I used a simple striping pattern with no white in the stripes.  I also added a maple leaf to the sleeves.

Sleeve Design:  Here's a closer look at the maple leaf in the sleeves.

Columbus Blue Jackets, by Justin:  I believe it's time for the Blue Jackets to redo their look, and this concept by Justin would be a very good option.  I like the double blue and gold colour scheme, and the Cannon logo is great as the primary logo.  The new secondary logo, which is based on an unused logo by the Blue Jackets, also looks really good.  I'm also a big fan of the stars on the cuffs, it's little details like that are what make good concepts great.  One minor complaint I have is the blue numbers, I don't know if their would be visible on TV or high up in the stands.

I'm going to update my Sharks and Panthers concepts I posted earlier this week.  Expect the updates in the next few days.  Thanks for reading.

Panthers Contest Entries

There's currently a Florida Panthers 3rd Jersey Competition going on at HJC.  Here are my two entries.

Entry #1:  My first entry is a retro red jersey.  I used a bold striping pattern, along with the Panthers' circle logo.

Entry #2:  For my second entry I used a blue jersey with a unique shoulder yoke.  I also used their current logos.

Thanks for visiting.

Orange Sharks

San Jose Sharks:  I wanted to try an orange third jersey for the Sharks.  I used a simple striping pattern, which I think matches their home and road jerseys pretty good.  I'm not super happy with how it came out, but I don't hate it either.

Any thoughts?
